This is very worrying, if not immediately found a way out. Service problems in hard-to-reach places are an old story in every government. Like in KarimunJawa, the long distance is a problem for health services.
As written in full by the CNN INDONESIA online site below:
“Jakarta, CNN Indonesia — Health care facilities in Central Java Province and Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY) are generally relatively easy to access in terms of number and distance. However, this is not the case with the Karimunjawa Islands, Karimunjawa District, Jepara Regency, Central Java.
Head of the Social Security Administration (BPJS) Health Regional Division VI Central Java/DIY Andayani Budi Lestari said the condition of Karimunjawa was quite different from other areas in Central Java and DIY.
“The most difficult thing is Karimunjawa because you have to take a boat to reach secondary health facilities and in Karimunjawa there is only Puskesmas,” Andayani told CNN Indonesia by telephone, Wednesday (3/6).
Andayani said, in Karimunjawa there is no hospital. Because if there are residents who need secondary health facilities (faskes) services, they must first cross the sea. “There are ships every day. The secondary health facilities usually go to Jepara,” said Andayani.
Even though he had to cross to get secondary health care services, Andayani claimed that this condition did not cause any problems or significant impact on the treatment process. “It’s still going well,” said Andayani.
Andayani admitted that his party continues to try to help the people of Karimunjawa. So that people do not have to travel long distances just to get services that are equivalent to secondary health facilities. “The role of primary health facilities is increased,” said Andayani.
Even if people need emergency measures, they can be treated first by doctors at primary health facilities. “Puskesmas doctors can handle it first before being referred,” he said.
Regarding the efforts to build a hospital in Karimunjawa, the BPJS Kesehatan admitted that it did not have any authority. After all, building a hospital is expensive. “Building a hospital is a high cost, especially since there is only one sub-district,” he said.
