the lack of medical equipment for the baby of the Karimunjawa Island resident dies |
There is sad news from the island of Karimun Jawa, this time about health services. A baby died after being referred from the island of Karimun, Java, to Jepara, Central Java. The baby was referred to mainland Jepara due to the lack of medical equipment on the island of Karimunjawa. Hopefully this can be a reference to the local government for the development of health services, so that incidents like this do not happen again.

Deep sorrow enveloped the couple Khulafaur Rosyidin (40) and Jumiyati (38), residents of RT 3 RW 1, Karimunjawa Islands, Jepara Regency, Central Java. The baby couple, male, died due to the lack of medical equipment in the islands in the Java Sea.
This Wednesday (20/8/2014), the baby couple from an underprivileged family was brought back to Karimunjawa by boarding the Passenger Motor Ship (KMP) Siginjai after previously receiving intensive care at the Kartini Hospital in Jepara. The plan is that today the poor baby will be buried by his family.
“We share our condolences. We hope that the bereaved families will be given fortitude,” said Karimunjawa sub-district head, M Taksin, Wednesday (20/8/2014).
The baby couple, Khulafaur Rosyidin-Jumiyati, was born in a breech condition on Monday (18/8/2014) night at the Karimunjawa Health Center. At birth, the baby could not cry and had difficulty breathing. Medical personnel at the health center tried to provide minimal assistance. Understandably, medical equipment and medical personnel at the Karimunjawa Health Center are limited. Fortunately, the baby’s life can still be saved.
However, the medical team suggested that the baby and the mother who gave birth be immediately referred to the Kartini Hospital in Jepara. However, because that night there were no ships serving the Karimunjawa-Jepara route, finally the baby boy could only be brought on Tuesday (19/8/2014) afternoon.
“Babies born breech have a great potential to experience impaired oxygenation. That’s why we refer to the Jepara Regional Hospital, which has more complete facilities,” said the only doctor on duty in the Karimunjawa Islands, Dr Manaf.
After traveling by sea for about 4 hours, Tuesday (19/8/2014) afternoon the baby and his mother arrived at the Kartini Hospital in Jepara. Both immediately received intensive care. However, at around 22.30 WIB, the one day old baby died. “The information is that apart from oxygenation problems, the baby’s heart also has problems,” explained Manaf.
According to Manaf, the lack of medical equipment in Karimunjawa has indeed affected the health services of the islanders in the Java Sea. This condition is exacerbated by the long distance traveled and the limited mode of sea transportation serving the Karimunjawa – Jepara route or vice versa. “Maybe if the baby of the Khulafaur Rosyidin-Jumiyati couple was treated more quickly, it could save their lives,” said Manaf.
